But the legacy of the storm — at least in Navan — is still being felt now.The delays in repairs have frustrated Kitts, who passed a motion after the derecho asking the province to activate the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians program, or DRAO. But the program applies only to jurisdictions the province designates and the province has not included Ottawa on that list.
For those not struggling to be compensated for repairs, one lasting legacy of the derecho is its impact on Ottawa’s tree canopy. The city estimates thousands of trees on city streets and in parks were lost, in addition to trees downed in forested areas, according to Tracey-Lee Schwets, Ottawa’s forest management program manager.Article content
