Smart Grass executive Craig Steven Voyton of San Pedro allegedly attempted to conceal income by providing customers with false federal tax information.
The owner of a Newport Beach artificial turf company has agreed to plead guilty to tax evasion for failing to report his $8.9 million income to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.
“Defendant knew he had a legal duty that required him to accurately report the income he received and the taxes due, but he nevertheless intentionally and voluntarily violated that known legal duty,” the agreement states Prosecutors allege Voyton attempted to conceal income from the IRS by providing customers with federal W-9 tax forms that contained a false federal employer identification number not belonging to Smart Grass and fabricated signatures.
