Yet again, unhoused Oakland residents, formerly of the Wood Street encampment, were cleared from another Caltrans property at 34th Street and Mandela Parkway. Caltrans said they were illegally on the site.
At least 10 RVs, several trailers and other personal property were removed.
"You can’t do that without giving them an alternative. You’re placing them in danger," said attorney Osha Neumann. "Government is supposed to protect you. "This is like the fourth eviction in two weeks," unhoused resident John Janosko said. "What they’re doing, it’s not working. It’s destroying people’s lives…and costing taxpayers’ resources and money."
