King Charles Bestows Accolade on Local Winemaker | SaltWire #wine #novascotia #award #kingcharlesThe 26-year-old St. John’s native and his Team Canada teammates defeated the rival United States 2-1 in the final of the 2024 World Para Ice Hockey Championships held in Calgary, Alta.

The win ends a long gold medal drought for Hickey and the Canadians. He has been with the team since making his national team debut in 2016, and they haven’t won gold since 2017. The win also puts the slightest of marks on the American's domination on the world stage. Heading into the final, Canada had suffered three straight losses to the United States in the world championship finals.Hickey had a great tournament for Canada.

As a team, Canada was perfect in the tournament. They went 3-0 in the round-robin with wins over Japan, Italy and Czechia. It’s Canada’s fourth gold medal since the first World Para Ice Hockey Championship was held in 2008.
