ContributedNIAGARA FALLS, Ont. — A young athlete from Newfoundland and Labrador has been awarded the inaugural Pat Lechelt True Sport Award during the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara, Ont.

Declan Walsh, a tennis player for Team Newfoundland and Labrador, was presented with the award on Aug. 13. The award is named after Pat Lechelt, who was known as one of the leading Chef’s de Mission for Team Alberta. Lechelt led Team Alberta to the Centennial Cup and the Jack Pelech Award, awarded to the province, demonstrating true spirit and congeniality at the Canada Games.

The Inaugural Pat Lechelt True Sport Award was presented today at Niagara Place as part of the 2022 Canada Summer Games, and Newfoundland and Labrador tennis and our province can boast about athlete and fine young man, Declan Walsh, who is the first-ever recipient of the award.
