The draft said, “This new legislation will require pay transparency from both the private and public sectors, effective __________, 2022.” One aspect of the pay transparency legislation includes reports that businesses would have to prepare and submit to the responsible minister. An edit to that line changed it as follows: “When it comes to the reporting requirement, I want to be clear that the provincial government will consult with businesses prior the development and implementation of requirements.”
The draft reads, “Details on the pay transparency consultations process, for reporting purposes, will be released in the coming ___.” According to his draft speaking notes, and the comments and edits made to them, at one point the government contemplated enacting pay transparency by April 1, 2023, the same date the pay equity portion of the legislation for public-sector employees takes effect.
