A person died Tuesday after a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 84 led to lane closures, authorities said.
At 9:09 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of a possible collision in eastbound Hwy. 84 lanes east of the Newark Boulevard on-ramp, CHP Officer Damian Cistaro said.
When officers arrived, they found at least two vehicles damaged by a collision and a person suffering from major injury, Cistaro said. The person was later pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts by Alameda County Fire Department firefighters. Their identity was not available Tuesday night, pending identification from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s bureau.
The CHP issued a Sig-alert closing the roadway’s Nos. 2 and 3, or middle and right-hand lanes, for an unspecified amount of time. Drivers were asked to avoid the area to allow investigators and coroner’s staff access.Contact George Kelly at 408-859-5180.
