Matz had an injection of cortisone and lidocaine early this week after being sent back to New York to have his tender forearm examined. He missed his turn in the rotation Wednesday against San Diego, but the Mets waited a few days before deciding to put him on the IL. The left-hander is 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA in seven starts this year. This is his sixth stint on the injured list in five major league seasons — at least one every year.
