It’s a hot late-July day when I walk into Citi Field and through the doors of a place that few journalists have gone before — the New York Mets' private dining room and lounge. The 2,000-square-foot space is reserved for the players; the athletic staff, including trainers and coaches; the kitchen staff; and very few other members of the Mets organization.
Today’s playlist is designed to transport the team to Ibiza, even though they’re playing baseball in Queens. “It’s more than cooking,” says Zavala. “I’ve never really known a lot of professional athletes and they’re just, like, the sweetest. And obviously, we feed them so they love us. They all have such great personalities and it’s such a fun environment.
