New York City is having a 'very good day' as rate of new coronavirus cases falls, mayor says
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday touted a drop in the number of new coronavirus patients in the hospital and other key virus tracking data, saying the city was having a "very good day."
De Blasio said there were drops in the number of new hospitalizations, the number of people in an intensive care unit receiving treatment and in the percentage of people testing postive for Covid-19. But de Blasio hammered away on the need for city residents to maintain virus mitigation efforts, saying New York needed to see further progress in minimizing the number of infected people.
There were 835 ICU admissions in NYC Health + Hospitals on Saturday, compared with 857 ICU admissions the day before.Pointing to the decrease in the hospitalization rate, de Blasio said, "That's a really meaningful improvement, that's a step in the right direction."
