The Court Appointed Special Advocates are coming at a time when Dauphin County has a high number of children in foster care.
In Dauphin County, eight new Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, are being sworn in Thursday to help children in foster care. After the ceremony, Dauphin County will have 34 CASA volunteers who are appointed by a judge. The volunteers help foster children find a permanent home that is a right fit for them. The new volunteers are coming at a time when the area has about 390 kids in foster care.
Will Foster, the executive director of Dauphin County CASA, said a reason for the high number of children in foster care is due to a substance abuse crisis.'It's causing a lot of issues with mental health,' Foster said.
