A new survey shows that the pandemic will drive down college enrollment
Almost all of the college students surveyed, 97%, said their schools had switched to online learning. Most of those students rated their experience of virtual classes as poor. When asked how online instruction compared to live classes, 50% said it was “worse” and 13% said “a lot worse.” Only 5% said it was “better.”
The survey follows several others that suggest students are rethinking their college plans. In a March 25, Circled In, a Seattle ed tech company, said that of the 1,000-plus high school seniors it surveyed, 22% said they may change course. The pandemic has forced many colleges to push back the deadline for students to accept their admissions offers, says Johnson. Most schools would have required students to make a decision by May 1. Many are pushing that deadline to June 1.
