Residents will receive coverage for accommodation or billeting assistance with family or friends, transportation and food, along with more money from building’s owner.
Residents of a Langford apartment building under an evacuation notice received news Thursday of new supports from the building’s owner and the province.
In a statement, Bowinn Ma, minister of emergency management and climate readiness, said the temporary supports include lodging for five days, as well as funding for a community navigator to help people secure the supports and resources available to them. The temporary supports will be administered through the provincial Emergency Support Services program.
Also on Thursday, Centurion Property Associates announced an additional $1,500 in “compassionate assistance” for tenants, bringing the total to $2,500.It is also making moving trucks and movers available to assist residents in moving their belongings out of the building and working with industry colleagues to help residents finding new accommodation.
