Nova Scotia Health said the Nurse-Family Partnership program helps parents with challenges such as poor mental health, social or economic position work through the early stages of pregnancy and lasts until the child's second birthday. An international program which began in 1978, studies have shown the partnership helps lower hospital visits, reduces child language delays, and overcoming behavioural and intellectual challenges.“We are currently in the hiring process and are working closely with our health and community partners to ensure everyone is prepared to champion this program for potential clients.”

Referral acceptance in Nova Scotia’s Eastern Zone including Antigonish and Guysborough counties, as well as Cape Breton, is expected to start in early 2024. Participation is open to those in need whether through medical referral or individually initiated contact.
