New subvariant BA.2 is more contagious but potentially less severe than omicron, new research says. StahlCBS3 reports.
PHILADELPHIA — There’s a new subvariant of omicron that’s circulating and it appears to be more infectious than the original, according to new research. Researchers say the new COVID-19 variant is more contagious but potentially less serious than omicron, which is responsible for the latest surge in cases.
While overall COVID-19 cases continue to drop, health officials worry the new variant could drag out this omicron surge. Like the more familiar version of omicron, BA.2 has a large number of changes — about 20 — concentrated in the spike protein, the part of the virus that’s targeted by vaccines.Side Streets At Jersey Shore 'A Little Rough' To Navigate As County Continues To Cleanup From Weekend's Nor'easter
