A \u0022Strong Mayors\u0022 bill would create powers to stick handle provincial priorities through its two largest municipalities, MPPs heard Tuesday.

Municipal Affairs Minister Steve Clark said the mayors of Toronto and Ottawa would be able to hire and fire top city bureaucrats, create new departments and committees, make key appointments, present budgets and veto bylaws that do not fall in line with the provincial government’s agenda.From our newsroom to your inbox at noon, the latest headlines, stories, opinion and photos from the Toronto Sun.
