New mural celebrates trailblazing Black lawyer Violet King yyc

Violet King, Canada’s first black female lawyer is shown in this June 1954 photo courtesy the Glenbow Archives, NA-5600-7760aWright said she heard the call for pitches for the Beltline Urban Mural Project , and after doing some research pitched her idea. “With my mural art, I thought it would be an amazing thing to just paint figures within Canada, specifically,” said Wright. “I chose Violet King because she grew up in Calgary and she started her law practice in Calgary.”
