A new Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning set photo from director Christopher McQuarrie teases Top Gun-style aerial stunts in the upcoming sequel.

A newly released set photo from one of the two-part Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning movies teases Top Gun-style aerial stunts. Tom Cruise is set to reprise his role as IMF agent Ethan Hunt in a two-part entry in the long-running spy film franchise. Along with Cruise, the next installment will feature Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Rebecca Ferguson returning as Luther Stickwell, Benji Dunn, and Ilsa Faust.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Director Christopher McQuarrie recently took to social media and shared an image from the Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning set that teases Top Gun-style aerial stunts. The photo shows a camera operator in the cabin of an aircraft using a monitor to observe another aircraft during a high-flying set-piece action sequence. The technician appears to be controlling an external camera to film a tilt-rotor aircraft in the scene. Can Mission: Impossible 7 Eclipse Top Gun: Maverick's Stunts? Cruise has a penchant for realism in his action-adventure films, pushing his movies to create some of the most authentic and thereby dangerous stunts ever shown on screen.

As the Mission: Impossible franchise continues from its 1996 theatrical debut, Cruise has pushed its productions to the limit. He strives for stunts in each entry to top the last. The popular movie series saw the actor scale the tallest building in the world, cling to the side of an airplane as it took off, and Cruise famously broke his ankle when jumping from one building rooftop to another for a dangerous stunt in Mission: Impossible - Fallout.

The next installment in the franchise looks to ratchet up the excitement with thrilling chase sequences, a fight scene atop a train, and a motorcycle jump off a cliff. Cruise has continued to prove his dedication to crafting the most compelling and death-defying stunts in cinema. With Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One hitting the big screen July 14, audiences will have to be patient to see if the film's stunts will surpass Top Gun: Maverick's.
