B.C. is moving to ban ticket scalping bots that buy-up tickets for events and then charge customers resale rates.
VICTORIA – B.C. is moving to ban ticket scalping bots that buy-up tickets for live events and then charge customers outrageous resale rates.
Specifically, the legislation would ban any person from using that automated purchasing software to circumvent any online security measures to make ticket buying fair. Further, companies are forbidden from selling any tickets that come from bot software. If passed, it would also require secondary ticket sellers to offer refunds if if the event is cancelled, if the ticket doesn’t allow entry to the event, if the ticket is counterfeit, if the ticket doesn’t match its advertised description or if the seller realizes it was purchased using bot software.
The legislation would also ban “speculative” sale of tickets, where someone sells a ticket before they have actually bought it or possess it.
