The city of Pearland's long-anticipated Shari D. Coleman Animal Shelter and Adoption...
Corrections of the facility came at no cost to the city, said David Row, Durotech founder and chief executive officer. The shelter was funded through a 2019 bond referendum. The Jan. 21 event with kick off with speeches from Cole, a member of Pearland Police Department command staff and daughters of Shari D. Coleman.
Coleman, who died in October 2019, managed the city's animal shelter for 17 years where she helped save the lives of thousands of animals. Following a ribbon cutting, the shelter's staff will conduct tours and guests can interact with adoptable animals, said Kathleen Paid, communications specialist for the city.
Hot dogs on a stick and hot chocolate will be served as refreshments, and a coloring wall for kids will be available. "Adoption fees have been waived since 2020 to encourage adoptions during the pandemic," Paid said."Adoption fees still continue to be waived and likely will be for the foreseeable future; so it’s not exclusive to the grand opening event."
