Netflix has announced four new Dave Chappelle stand-up specials, only four months after controversy surrounding the comedian’s programme The Closer.
However, the streaming platform has assigned Chappelle a further four shows, each rumoured to be around $20million per comedy special.
The new series, Chappelle’s Home Team, stars veteran comedians including Earthquake and Donnell Rawlings, who previously appeared on Comedy Central’s sketch series Chappelle’s Show. Chappelle will introduce the headliner of each instalment of the programme, which is set to debut on February 28.Speaking about the show, Chappelle said: ‘I’ve been doing this a long time and comedians like Quake and Donnell are not only friends but have inspired my own career.‘I am proud to be a part of this moment.’
Several Netflix useres have taken to social media to share their fury over the latest announcement, with one Twitter user writing: ‘Ended my decade-long @Netflix subscription after the last one. Guess it’s staying cancelled. F*** @Netflix and their love for bigot #DaveChappelle.’ Another wrote: ‘Netflix proposing this contract like “yeah, this is a bad idea and will make a ton of people furious. Sign it.”’You’d think they’d at least find a funny bigot for comedy specials, but oh well.Netflix is jacking up the prices, losing the marvel shows, and adding four new Dave Chappelle shows? Never heard of a better time to cancel a subscription than now.
