Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EL Elemental (PPVD EL) prescription dry dog food was recalled.

Recalled are some lots of Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EL Elemental prescription dry dog food.“Vitamin D toxicity may include vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, and excessive drooling to renal dysfunction,” the company said.

Purina said it received two confirmed cases of dogs “exhibiting signs of vitamin D toxicity after consuming the diet, to date. Once taken off the diet, each of these dogs recovered.” The dog food was distributed nationwide but is only available by prescription from veterinary clinics, Purina Vet Direct, Purina for Professionals, and other select retailers with the ability to validate a prescription.The first eight characters of the production codes are 22491082, 22501082, 22761082, 22771082, 22901082, 23601082 and 23611082.
