Author Neil Gaiman addressed serious allegations of sexual assault, abuse, and coercion made against him by eight women. While denying any non-consensual activity, Gaiman acknowledges past shortcomings in his relationships, expressing regret for his emotional unavailability and inconsiderate behavior.

Neil Gaiman addressed allegations of assault, abuse, and coercion leveled against him by eight women in a statement posted on Tumblr. The accusations, first detailed in a New York Magazine article and previously covered in a Tortoise Media podcast, prompted a strong response from the acclaimed author. Gaiman denied engaging in any non-consensual sexual activity, stating that his interactions with the women were always consensual.

He acknowledged, however, that he could have been more emotionally available and thoughtful in his relationships. Gaiman maintained that looking back at past message exchanges, they still appeared to depict consensual relationships. He expressed regret for being emotionally unavailable and for not being as considerate as he should have been, recognizing that he was careless with people's hearts and feelings. The allegations primarily relate to encounters when Gaiman was in his 40s or older and residing in the United States, Britain, and New Zealand. One accuser, Scarlett Pavlovich, alleged that she met Gaiman through his then-wife, Amanda Palmer, in New Zealand in 2022 and claimed he abused her on numerous occasions. Pavlovich's allegations, which were initially brought to light six months prior in the podcast, include a claim of sexual assault. She reported the incident to the police in January 2023. While the New Zealand Police declined to confirm or deny an investigation, they emphasized the right to privacy for individuals who file complaints. Attempts to reach Gaiman's representatives, his office, and Bloomsbury Publishing, where some of his recent books are published, were unsuccessful. Amazon Prime Video and Netflix, both planning Gaiman-related projects for the upcoming year, have not yet responded to inquiries
