They're living in the house next door, but they're not even supposed to be there. ABC6 News investigates what you can do to confront alleged squatters.

On Your Side, ABC6 News investigates what you can do if alleged squatters move into the house next door. April 29, 2024 After the death of a woman in 2021, squatters moved into a Harlem Twp. home where it’s alleged that they defecated outside the home, created a trash-strewn mess, and even ignited a fire. However, neighbors say efforts to get them evicted have been unsuccessful, exposing loopholes in Ohio squatting laws.

Stauffer claims more than 20 people were living at the home at one point, with some living in a camper, in cars, and even in a makeshift tent that Stauffer called “the tarp house.”She suspected drugs and prostitution at the home and called 911 many times. The Delaware County sheriff’s office shows more than 40 calls about the property since Sewell’s death.

Mike Cannon, the Harlem Township zoning administrator, went to the home several times and agreed that the home was a mess. Cannon and other officials said they were told the home is tied up in probate court and that prevents them from taking action. But officials with Delaware County probate court said there are no active cases in the county involving the property.

I still disagree with that opinion. In my opinion it's a combination of bandwagonism and contrarianism in NW Ohio.

The Ohio secretary of state must certify candidates 90 days before the general election, but the DNC is set to start after this deadline. Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose has brought this issue to the attention of the Ohio Democratic Party, suggesting that either the DNC moves up its convention or the Ohio General Assembly creates an exception to the requirement. The situation is being monitored, and it is expected that Joe Biden will still be on the ballot in Ohio.
