The Penguins , snapping a three-game losing streak, were also fueled by goals from Rickard Rakell, Anthony Beauvillier, Cody Glass, and Bryan Rust. The Sabres fell to 6-14-4, their 18th loss in 24 games. Nedeljkovic's historic performance came a day after former Penguins starter Tristan Jarry cleared waivers and was sent to the AHL. He earned a secondary assist on Glass' goal late in the second period, giving Pittsburgh a 3-1 lead. He then sealed the win with a memorable empty-net goal with 2:42 remaining in the third period, sending the puck from behind the net the length of the ice. Power opened the scoring on a power-play goal with 4:14 left in the first period. Rakell and Beauvillier followed with goals 27 seconds apart early in the second, giving the Penguins a 2-1 advantage. Rust extended the lead to 4-1 just 1:09 into the third. Benson briefly narrowed the gap to 4-2 with 5:14 remaining, but the Penguins held on for the victory. The Sabres' penalty kill, which had been successful in converting 22 of 25 opportunities over the last 10 games, faltered against the Penguins, going 1 for 4. The win moved Pittsburgh three points behind Boston for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
