“If you need to have those locations for three days we expect that we will lose 25 to 40 per cent and so that would have a perverse effect, unintended consequence on the accessibility,” he told MPs on the House of Commons Procedure and House Affairs committee this week,
The confidence and supply agreement also calls for a change to allow people to vote at any polling location in their riding. For such a system to be possible, Perrault said, Elections Canada would have to adopt electronic voter lists, a change the agency is already pursuing.Article content “We are one of the last jurisdictions in Canada that relies solely on paper lists,” he said. “Provincially, territorially, electronic lists are the norm.”
It is our hope that measures to make it easier for people to vote will be implemented as soon as possible, but the timeline on those specific measures are still in discussion.While both proposals for three-day voting and the ability to vote at any polling station were contained in the Liberal-NDP confidence and supply agreement, there is no specific timeline for implementation.
