All remaining winter and spring NCAA championships will not go on.
The decision came from NCAA President Mark Emmert and the governing body’s board of governors.
“This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities,” the NCAA said in aMany track and field athletes were on their way to or already in Albuquerque, and were informed of the news Thursday afternoon.
On Thursday afternoon, the ACC and Big 10 pulled their athletes out of the championships. Soon after, the NCAA canceled the event entirely.
