NBCUniversal’s Peacock Tops 20M Paid Subs, Streamer’s Loss Hits $978M in Fourth Quarter
“Severance costs contributed to a fourth-quarter earnings miss on earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization and free cash flow,” Wells Fargo analyst Steven Cahall wrote in a first reaction. “Severance of $541 million was likely not in most estimates as Comcast had mentioned it, but not quantified it.”
In its fourth-quarter financial report, Comcast also posted NBCU earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization that fell 36.3 percent to $817 million from $1.28 billion amid higher expenses, even though revenue rose 5.9 percent to $9.89 billion. The unit also said its advertising revenue increased 4 percent in the fourth, “primarily due to incremental revenue from the FIFA World Cup, as well as an increase in Peacock advertising revenue.”
