Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr criticizes the NBA's trade deadline timing after his team experiences significant roster changes mere hours before a game against the Utah Jazz. Kerr suggests shifting the deadline to the All-Star break to minimize disruption and allow teams to adjust.
Golden State coach Steve Kerr had a specific rotation in mind when he arrived at the arena in Salt Lake City on Wednesday night. However, less than an hour before the game, his carefully laid plans were thrown into disarray. The Warriors were hit with multiple trades, sending shockwaves through the team just moments before tip-off. This unexpected turn of events forced Kerr to scramble and devise a new game plan in a remarkably short timeframe.
After his team fell to the Utah Jazz 131-128, Kerr suggested that the NBA consider altering its approach to the trade deadline.'I think the league should consider making the trade deadline at the All-Star break just so you don't have to face these games where guys are getting traded half an hour before a game and you're trying to process the emotions and trying to win a game,' Kerr stated. 'I don't know if it's possible.'The trade deadline this season falls at 3 p.m. Eastern on Thursday. All trades require league approval, and then there are logistical challenges involving the traded players reaching their new destinations. All 10 available Warriors took the court; two-way player Jackson Rowe made his NBA debut, logging 14 minutes, and fellow two-way signee Pat Spencer also played 14 minutes - essentially matching his total from the last 11 games combined. 'Our guys were in the locker room getting ready to play,' Kerr said. 'And all of a sudden, we’re saying goodbye.' The Warriors weren't the only team grappling with roster upheaval due to pending trades on Wednesday, and it's highly probable that a few teams will be missing newly acquired players on Thursday and Friday as the deadline's impact continues to unfold. 'It'd be great if we could move it back or make the last couple of days before the deadline off days,' Kerr said. 'I don’t know how to do it. But these are tough days, for sure.'
