Nature-inspired art exhibit by Amanda Hartman celebrates the beauty of TerraceBC
a self-curated show by local Terrace artist Amanda Hartman.consists of 36 acrylic paintings, bursting with colour and serenity — all being cohesive with a unified theme.is about taking a closer look at local wildflowers, that can be found by roadsides or other various places, and glorifying those “ugly, unwanted” flowers and finding the beauty and joy in them. It is about persevering through hardship and blooming into something beautiful.
Amanda Hartman takes this theme quite literally and uses old painting palettes as canvases, turning something seen as unwanted into something to be appreciated. Most of the flowers in the pieces contain some form of symbolism all linking to the meaning of the show. Lupins mean admiration and happiness. Fireweed symbolizes rejuvenation, being the first plant to grow back after a forest fire, and many more examples as such.
Amanda Hartman has been painting professionally for over 20 years, starting out with watercolours, but has since moved to acrylic and mixed media in more recent years, as is shown inMost of Amanada Hartman’s artwork is inspired by the nature of Terrace. When not painting , she can be finding inspiration for her art in her other activities; hiking, mountain biking, stand up paddleboarding, snowboarding and sailing. Hartman’s life is filled with adventure and the love of the outdoors, which is a present theme in most of her work.travels to the Quesnel Art Gallery in June, but it will be featured at the Terrace Art Gallery until the end of April. The Terrace Art Gallery is open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
