The warning was issued after a severe thunderstorm was located over Paradise Hills and near Chula Vista around 11:44 a.m. The winds were moving northeast at 35 mph

The National Weather Service issued a rare tornado warning for a wide swath of south and east San Diego County shortly before noon Tuesday after a rotation in a thunderstorm was detected by radar. The alert was lifted around 12:15 p.m. 'When you get real strong thunderstorms they start to rotate.

Before that, one was issued in March 2023 in North County. 'Severe thunderstorms are rare, let alone tornado warnings,' he said. Alerts rang out on cellphones starting at 11:44 a.m., when the weather service reported a severe thunderstorm was located over Paradise Hills and near Chula Vista. The initial warning extended to a wide area including Chula Vista, El Cajon, National City, La Mesa, La Presa, Paradise Hills, Lincoln Park, Spring Valley, Lakeside and Crest.
