Full Screen is not supported on this browser version.The “deuce” was the third car in a line of Henry Ford’s most popular models, after he debuted the Model T late in 1908 and then discontinued all of the company’s other cars to concentrate on it. It was followed by the all-new Model A in 1928. His new 1932 offering had similar styling to the Model A, but the big news was under the hood: Ford’s very first V8, at a time when direct competitors offered six-cylinders as their largest engines.

While some drivers were modifying their cars with performance add-ons right from the start, hot-rodding really took hold after the Second World War. Car owners stripped off any unnecessary parts, dropped in bigger engines, and took them racing on the dry lakes. Fords were popular simply because the Model T, Model A, and 1932 had sold in large numbers, and so there were lots of them around.
