The Space Center Houston event features a model of Intuitive Machines' lunar lander and Boeing's ISS Mimic replica, along with music from Rick Springfield, more.
“I think there's nothing more satisfying than having an epiphany,” he continues. “When you figure something out, it's something so extraordinary for humans — when you figure it out, and you say, ‘Oh, that's how that works. That’s how that happened.’ That makes you more curious and more interested in learning and exploring.”
“It's really presenting it in a way that it’s not so simplified that people completely miss it, but at the same time not making the information overwhelming,” he adds. “People came in not knowing, and walked away with a good fundamental understanding of that program and its priorities,” he says. “That was one of our big goals, especially as a learning institution. That’s primarily why we're here, but people learn a lot more when they're having fun and they're really engaged with the activity.”
Other parts of the festival are designed to highlight the many areas of space exploration where learning and fun overlap. Kids can enjoy an inflatable maze and participate in a robotics challenge. Meanwhile, an array of VR experiences will allow guests of all ages to virtually train for the ISS, navigate a drone course like NASA’s Ingenuity Mars helicopter, and recreate Alan Shepherd’s famous lunar golf outing from 1971.
