A woman is being charged after authorities say she failed to supervise and care for a 5-month-old girl who was found in a home with a deceased man.
According to Derry Township Police in a release on Tuesday, officers were called to a home on the 200 block of Cocoa Ave. at around 5:22 p.m. on Jan. 30. for a wellness check.Police also observed that the apartment was "extremely unsanitary and filthy." Authorities state a 5-month-old infant, unrelated to the man, was found lying on a bed and "barely responsive."After being sent to Hershey Medical Center for evaluation, the child was treated for open wounds and sores.
Further investigation revealed that 27-year-old Heaven Maez was found to be the sole caretaker who was responsible for the baby girl. Police later determined that she left the girl, her daughter, in the apartment without care or supervision for about a week.His death is not being considered as suspicious.She is currently facing one charge of child endangerment and is being held at the Dauphin County Prison.
