HALIFAX, N.S. — Blue-green algae has already been spotted in Nova Scotia — and the year’s hottest days are still ahead.
The N.S. NDP renewed its call for the province to create a Provincial Lake Advisory Commission to communicate advice and take action “to conserve Nova Scotia’s lakes.” The NDP tabled legislation in March to create a commission. “Blue-green algae is a growing threat, and the blooms are worsening because of human activity, development and a changing climate,” NDP Leader Claudia Chender said in a statement. “Our lakes are important environmental habitats and recreational spaces.
