Halifax Regional Police announced Tuesday that they have charged the student with two counts of attempted murder, two of aggravated assault, and multiple weapons-related offences, including carrying a concealed weapon. The superintendent would also not comment on a report that a school employee tried to help contain the boy using a broom.

The student left the building and officers took him into custody near the basketball court at 9:31 a.m. According to Boyd, the boy was scheduled to appear in youth court sometime Tuesday and the court would decide whether to keep him in custody.“Every incident of violence in the school we take very seriously,” he said.
