The certificates are limited to information reported to police.
Unlike some other provinces, school staff in Newfoundland and Labrador are not required to participate in sexual abuse prevention training as a condition of employment. C3P’s research in Newfoundland and Labrador was limited to media coverage, since professional disciplinary records are not public here nor in most provinces. Making professional misconduct records publicly available is another of the centre’s recommendations, as is the implementation of trauma-informed support for child victims.
Newfoundland and Labrador Opposition education critic Barry Petten says prevention also lies in school-based social media safety education.
