Michael Marotta and the victim said they did not know each other.
In a plea agreement, Michael Marotta, 26, of Sewell, acknowledged that he used an anonymous text messaging app to threaten the woman and her family on April 14, 2020, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maryland.
In the message, Marotta used racial epithets to describe the woman and her family and threatened to come to their home and harm them, prosecutors stated. Portions of the message included, “I know where you live now, I’m coming to rape your family” and “eat my bullets,” according to authorities. It’s not clear from details provided by prosecutors how Marotta identified the victim. Both Marotta and the victim indicated that they did not know each other, officials said.to a charge of making threatening interstate communications and faced up to five years in prison, officials previously said.
During a Tuesday hearing in Baltimore, U.S. District Judge Stephanie A. Gallagher sentenced Marotta to three years of probation with a “30-day term of community confinement, preceded by an intensive in-patient drug treatment program …” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.“Hate-fueled, racially motivated violence must not be tolerated and this office will aggressively prosecute those who stoke fear and hate in our communities,” U.S. Attorney Erek L.
