Hundreds of “by-the-wind sailors,” jelly-like creatures known for their beautiful blue hues, were spotted 2 miles from Orange County on Friday.
Their scientific name is Velella velellas and they are distinguished by their “sails” on top, which look like a clear mohawk.
By-the-wind sailors, jellylike creatures, were spotted by the crew on Dana Wharf Whale Watching by the hundreds just two miles off Dana Point on Friday, April 7, 2023. They could be washing ashore in coming days.
