'My heart is heavy': Milwaukee police chief mourns officer killed in the line of duty, MariaLeaf reports.
"Milwaukee Police Department hearts are heavy. My heart is heavy," Chief Jeffrey Norman told reporters as he fought back tears."One of our finest who put on that uniform, put on that badge, went into work last night and paid the ultimate sacrifice for protecting our community. Milwaukee, we need your prayers. We need your support."Norman said the shooting happened around 1:16 a.m.
The suspect ignored commands from officers to stop and tried to run from them. When the officer caught up to him, the suspect began firing at the officer, who then returned fire.CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER The fallen officer's name has not been released pending family notification. A 19-year-old suspect was also killed. Their name has not been made public.
Norman said it's unknown if the suspect's death was caused by the officer's gun or if it was self-inflicted.An investigation into the incident is underway, Norman said.
