We need to look out for each other to get through this pandemic—and life.

When public health messaging feels so isolating, it makes sense to assume “I’m the only one who still takes COVID seriously.” But the reality is many people—my wedding party very much included—still want to avoid constant reinfection and reduce the chance of infecting others. But because so many folks have different ideas of what “COVID-safe” means, we knew that clearly communicating boundaries would be key.

We rented out a bed-and-breakfast for our wedding party and families for the weekend and everyone staying there tookeach morning. My spouse and I also tested every day of our wedding weekend—some days more than once. All guests, regardless of whether they stayed on-site or not, took rapid tests the day of the wedding, as did all vendors who were able to. We provided KN95s to all guests for the indoor ceremony, though our wedding party, my spouse, and I remained unmasked.
