“He wasn’t joking. I talked to the counsellor. counsellor said, ‘I’m really sorry, if you could come and get him.’”The night before they arrived, the camp had informed parents of a cohort of cases. When another case was discovered outside of the original cohort, the camp sent an email alerting parents of the shutdown.
“At the arrival, we mentioned to each of you that Muskoka Woods was in an outbreak situation due to a number of positive cases in one cohort,” read an email from John McAuley, president and CEO, and Chris Tompkins, executive director and COO. “We are requesting that all guests are picked up as soon as possible. If you are not able to return this evening, we are asking that you plan to come back on Monday, Aug. 2 by noon.”“He is absolutely disappointed, and I’m disappointed for him,” she said. “Obviously, this is where you make those lifelong friends.”“The camp was very transparent, honestly.” Guthrie said. “They did the right thing. They tried to keep all the kids safe.
Guthrie enrolled her 15-year-old daughter at Muskoka Woods for later this summer but is unsure if that will go ahead as planned. She’s also unsure if she can get Beckett back there on a waiting list.“At first he was just happy to be back in the car.
