.ElonMusk slammed by Harvard leadership expert: 'I don’t think he understands social media'
Bill George, an executive fellow at Harvard Business School, detailed the “big mistake” he claimed Musk made in an interview with CNBC. George's expertise comes from more than two decades of studying leadership.“If you had to write a case study on an example of a really poor takeover of an organization, Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter would fit that perfectly well,” George told the outlet. “I don’t think he understands social media.
Musk has completely rebranded the platform, from its name to its logo, to incorporate the letter"X," which is prominent in nearly all his other business ventures. The Tesla Model X electric sedan, which debuted in 2015, was the second model after Musk became CEO. Musk's space exploration company also features an"X" in its name: SpaceX. It was established in 2002, long before Musk took over Tesla or Twitter.
Advertising on the platform dropped following Musk's accession to power. The then-CEO hired Linda Yaccarino to replace him, who previously was the head of advertising at NBCUniversal. In an attempt to save costs, Musk laid off a majority of employees to help make the company leaner and began charging for verified accounts on X.Previously banned accounts also reemerged on the platform under Musk's leadership.
Musk also hosted the third presidential candidate for 2024 in a Spaces conversation, Vivek Ramaswamy, after Democratic candidate Robert F. Kennedy and GOP candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis . Spaces allow for a livestream interview with several users at once. Musk revealed Friday that his platform X had received a new monthly high of users at over 541,000,000.
