USW Local 6500 has thrown their support behind CUPE Local 4705 and offered their Brady Street parking lot as a location to gather in the event a strike is called

Both the City of Greater Sudbury and CUPE Local 4705 have prepared themselves for the possibility of municipal workers going on strike as early as Wednesday.

Representing City of Oshawa employees, CUPE Local 250 also expressed their support for CUPE Local 4705 during the weekend, noting that four municipal sector locals in Ontario are either on the line or close to striking. Locally, the key sticking point in the City of Greater Sudbury and CUPE Local 4705 being unable to strike a new collective bargaining agreement is forced overtime and rotating weekend shifts.

With city staff mandated with following the established direction of city council in the collective bargaining process, their concern has been that the city won’t concede anything during Tuesday's talks. City council members provided their mandate for collective bargaining negotiations in February, and were updated in July.
