SHELBURNE, N.S. — From accessibility plans being drafted and infrastructure projects undertaken to hiring an accessibility coordinator, Shelburne County municipal units have been working towards the provincial goal to make Nova Scotia an accessible province by 2030.An accessibility coordinator has also been jointly hired by the Municipality of Shelburne and the towns of Shelburne and Lockeport.

“Where do you see the community could do better for accessibility, whether it's the buildings, which I will audit, parks, sidewalks… anywhere from public beaches, washrooms to even like art centers and businesses?” Denning is asking the community, adding there Is funding available for businesses to make their establishments more accessible.

“We are thrilled to have Tammy as our accessibility coordinator to work with us in supporting others in overcoming accessibility challenges in Eastern Shelburne County,” says Shelburne Municipal Warden Penny Smith. The municipality is also dedicated to making its website accessible for all users and inclusive for all abilities."We are committed to ongoing review and improvements to enhance accessibility, as we recognize website accessibility is an evolving process, not a one-time achievement," Smith says.

The gazebo by the beach at Welkum Park in the Municipality of Shelburne has been made accessible as part of a three-phase accessibility plan that is nearing completion. Contributed
