Memorial University’s Faculty Association is calling for an independent investigation into former president Vianne Timmons’ Indigenous claims.

In a letter to the Board of Regents, MUNFA requests that an outside source conduct an investigation into the alleged false claims, followed by a reformed and public recruiting process for the next president. MUNFA says neither the board or administration have apologized for the harm Timmons’ alleged Mi’kmaq heritage has caused to the Indigenous community at Memorial University, and the removal of Timmons is not enough.

They say the Board of Regents must take accountability and commit to change by working with the Office of Indigenous Affairs, Indigenous Advisory Committee, faculty members, and the public.
