The Quebec Liberals seem to have the same sort of conceit about themselves as the federal Liberals did during those trying times prior to Justin Trudeau’s leadership: Surely someone would come along and get them their ministerial limos back! One of my Liberal colleagues in Jean Charest’s cabinet, Henri-François Gautrin, was a former head of the Quebec NDP. Charest, of course, was a former Progressive Conservative leader who said during his recent run at the Conservative national leadership that he’d always remained a Conservative, even as Liberal leader. Who knew? Socialists and conservatives found common cause because the glue that kept the Liberals together was their desire to keep Canada together.
