The man accused of kidnapping a nine-year-old girl in an upstate New York state park was ordered to remain in custody without bond early Tuesday,Authorities released a mugshot of Craig Ross Jr., 46, looking dazed with a scruffy beard and receding hairline. He is described as 6-foot-4 and about 275 pounds.The girl, Charlotte Sena, vanished Saturday evening while riding her bike during a family camping trip in Moreau Lake State Park, 60 kilometres north of Albany.
On Monday evening, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said investigators were able to identify a fingerprint from a ransom note allegedly left by the suspect at the family home of the abducted girl.State police were able to match the fingerprints to Ross, who was in the database from a 1999 driving while intoxicated case, Hochul said.
“After some resistance, the suspect was taken into custody and immediately the little girl was found in a cabinet,” Hochul said. “She knew she was being rescued. She knew that she was in safe hands.”Ross lived 3 kilometres from the family’s home, according to an address listed on his vehicle registration, Hochul said.authorities will question Ross to learn if he was either stalking the girl, trying to make money from her abduction, or if he is a pedophile.
