Motorsport track opens north of Calgary after years of delays yyc
Rocky Mountain Motorsports officially unveiled the 3.5-kilometre, 16-turn track on Thursday near Carstairs. The facility, approximately 65 kilometres north of Calgary near the intersection of Highway 2 and Highway 581, will be available for car clubs and driving schools as well as occasional open public lap sessions. Outside of the public offerings, the track will be available for use by RMM members.
Several years later, in 2020, RMM was finally able to break ground. The group was recently able to receive the final necessary permits for the opening, leading to Thursday’s unveiling.Coun. Chabot floats idea of supervised racing strip as alternative to illegal drag races “RMM answered a call for Alberta’s many motorsports enthusiasts who were wanting access to a world-class motorsports facility without having to leave the province — or even the country for that matter,” read the news release.
