THUNDER BAY — Trying to get closer to a friend proved to be a costly mistake behind the wheel for a Thunder Bay woman on the weekend.

While a member of the police traffic unit was conducting speed enforcement along Onion Lake Road, the officer observed a sedan being driven at 99 km/h on a roadway with a posted limited of 50 km/h. After the officer conducted a traffic stop without incident, the female driver revealed she was trying to catch up to her friend who was driving ahead of her at nearly 30 km/h above the posted limit.

Besides facing a charge of stunt driving, her vehicle was impounded for 14 days, and her licence was suspended for 30 days.
